Nio has opened a new Nio Hub in Cologne, the second showroom it has opened in Germany this month.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) has opened a new showroom in Germany, its second this month, albeit a smaller one.
Nio has officially opened its Nio Hub in Cologne, Germany, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today on Weibo.
Cologne is a well-known city on the Rhine River in western Germany, known for its cathedral, industry and financial center status, the Weibo post noted.
The experience center is located southwest of Cologne, near the German A1 highway, Nio said.
Nio's Weibo post didn't mention much more, but shared several images of the Nio Hub.
This is the second showroom Nio has added in Germany this month, having opened a new Nio House -- its flagship showroom -- in Hamburg on June 20.
Nio currently has four Nio Houses in Germany and eight in Europe. The number of Nio Hubs it has in Germany or Europe is unknown.
The moves come as the EU is about to start imposing additional tariffs on Chinese EVs.
The European Commission announced on June 12 that it will begin imposing additional tariffs on EVs imported from China starting next month, varying by vehicle manufacturer and reaching up to 38.1 percent. Chinese EVs imported into the EU currently face a 10 percent tariff.
BYD, Geely and SAIC Motor Corp, which were sampled and cooperated with the on-going anti-subsidy investigation, will be subject to additional tariffs of 17.4 percent, 20 percent and 38.1 percent, respectively.
Nio and its local counterpart Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), which are among the BEV makers that cooperated with the investigation but were not sampled, will face a weighted average tariff of 21 percent.
On June 26, Bloomberg reported that the EU slightly revised its proposed tariffs on EV imports from China after receiving more information from affected companies.
The additional tariff faced by SAIC was lowered to 37.6 percent from the previously announced 38.1 percent, Geely was lowered to 19.9 percent from 20 percent, and BYD remained at 17.4 percent, according to the report.
Other Chinese EV makers that cooperated with the investigation but weren't sampled will be subject to a weighted average tariff of 20.8 percent, slightly lower than the previously announced 21 percent, according to Bloomberg.
Nio said after the June 12 release of the European Commission's pre-disclosure that its commitment to the EV market in Europe has remained unwavering, despite protectionism.
