Nio (NYSE: NIO)'s (NYSE: NIO) upgraded virtual voice assistant, NOMI GPT, which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology, reached more than 10 million user interactions, the electric vehicle (EV) maker announced today on its social media platforms.

This comes 76 days after the new version of the virtual voice assistant was launched on April 12.

NOMI GPT completed tasks including trip planning, role-playing, and text creation in its interactions with users.

A total of 8,747 people have conversed with NOMI GPT for more than 30 minutes, and the user who talked to NOMI GPT the most in a day chatted with the voice assistant more than 200 times, according to Nio.

Nio released NOMI in 2017 when it unveiled its first production car, the ES8, derived from the English Know Me. It's one of the earliest virtual voice assistants launched by a car company in China.

Previously NOMI was mainly used to perform tasks including playing music, navigating, making phone calls, taking photos, and finding battery swap stations.

On March 5, William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, said in an earnings call that the company would leverage the computing power of Nio vehicles to launch NOMI GPT based on AI large language models, which will be able to increase the competitiveness of the company's existing products.

On April 12, Nio officially launched the NOMI GPT, which incorporates AI technology and is available for vehicles equipped with the Banyan system.

Banyan is the system used in Nio's NT 2.0-based models, while its older NT 1.0-based models use a system called Aspen.

GPT refers to Generative Pre-trained Transformer, which essentially solves for the probability of the next word appearing, sampling and generating a word from a probability distribution with each call.

As ChatGPT has become a hot topic around the world, a number of Chinese companies have also ventured into this area.

AI large language models give NOMI deeper emotional expression and makes it smarter, Nio previously said.
