The last time a Tesla model's delivery wait time in China was reduced to as low as 1 week was on December 26, 2022.
Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model 3 and Model Y have seen shorter wait times for the full range of variants available in China, hinting that demand may still be weak.
Both locally produced Tesla models now have wait times of 1-6 weeks in China, according to information on Tesla China's website monitored by CnEVPost.
Prior to these changes, all variants of the Model 3 had wait times of 3-6 weeks in China, and all variants of the Model Y had wait times of 2-6 weeks.
The last time a Tesla model's delivery wait time in China was reduced to as low as 1 week was on December 26, 2022, when the wait time for the entire lineup of Model 3 and Model Y was 1-4 weeks, according to CnEVPost's daily monitor.
The Model 3 is currently offered in China in three variants -- an entry-level rear-wheel drive version, a long-range all-wheel drive version, and an all-wheel drive performance version -- with starting prices of RMB 231,900 ($32,000), RMB 271,900, and RMB 335,900, respectively.
The latest Model 3 performance variant began pre-sales in China at the end of April and went on formal sales on June 2, with first deliveries expected to begin in the middle of this month.
The Model Y is also currently offered in China in three variants -- an entry-level rear-wheel drive version, a long-range all-wheel drive version, and an all-wheel drive performance version -- with starting prices of RMB 249,900, RMB 290,900, and RMB 354,900, respectively.
The wait for the Model S and Model X that are not built locally remains in the fourth quarter, information on Tesla China's website shows.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that currently has an annual production capacity of more than 950,000 vehicles, its largest in the world.
The factory produces the Model 3 and Model Y, and not only delivers to local consumers, but is also an export hub for Tesla.
On May 24, Reuters reported that Tesla's Shanghai factory planned to cut Model Y production by at least 20 percent between March and June.
Tesla China sold 72,573 vehicles in May, bringing sales in the January-May period to 355,616 vehicles, down 7.12 percent from 382,859 in the same period last year, data compiled by CnEVPost showed.
Figures for Tesla's May sales in China and exports from its Shanghai factory are not yet available.
In the January-April period, Tesla China sold 283,043 vehicles, with sales in China contributing 57.89 percent at 163,841 vehicles.
