Total Adblock vs. 1Blocker compared

Ad blockers work by removing ads from websites you visit. Total Adblock is compatible with a variety of operating systems but really shines on Windows and Android devices.

1Blocker, on the other hand, was built for macOS and iOS. Mac users know that they often get limited features and functionality from products built for both Windows and Mac, so it’s a nice change to have a powerful ad blocker built specifically for this operating system.

Both Total Adblock and 1Blocker offer free and paid plans. We tested each plan for each product and found that the paid plans are superior to their free counterparts. Total Adblock free gives you some decent protection, but it leaves out over 15,000 of the most popular websites. You’ll need the paid subscription to block those.

1Blocker free works across the web, but you can use only one category at a time. We really liked the firewall, ad blocking, annoyance blocking, tracker blocking, and comment blocking functionalities, which were all useful and really improved our online experience. You won’t realize how much you love not seeing comments until they’re gone.

Each product’s pricing is reasonable, but we love that 1Blocker offers a lifetime purchase for such a small amount. Whenever you see evergreen subscriptions like this, snap them up because they may not last.

Winner: 1Blocker. While both have their pluses and minuses, the lifetime subscription pricing 1Blocker offers can’t be beaten.

Total Adblock and 1Blocker are both powerful tools that can protect you from annoying online ads and malicious pop-ups. They possess similar features that allow you to whitelist sites, meaning you can allow ads on sites you choose. There’s also extensive ad blocking in a variety of categories. The biggest difference is that 1Blocker also possesses the ability to blacklist sites, which means you can make sure to note that nothing should be allowed through on those sites ever.

1Blocker is an excellent ad blocker for Safari and offers multiple filters for the iOS and macOS browser.

Unfortunately, neither of these programs can help you bypass paywalls. When we tested them, paywalls were still present on every site we tried. If you’re hoping to skirt those, you’ll likely need to try a different method.

Winner: Tie. Even though 1Blocker allows for blacklisting, these two are pretty equal in the level of protection provided.

We tested these ad blockers against three popular sites: AdBlock Tester, Cover Your Tracks, and Can You Block It. AdBlock Tester checks how well the ad blocker stops contextual advertisements, banner ads, analytics tools, and error monitoring. Cover Your Tracks tests if the ad blocker can stop tracking ads and invisible trackers. Plus, it checks to see whether your digital fingerprint is unique and, therefore, more trackable. Can You Block It tests whether your browser can block warning pop-ups, banner ads, and interstitial ads.

Again, we found that Total Adblock and 1Blocker are matched equally. Each of the tests we ran evaluates the ad blocking power and how well the ad blocker can hide you from various ads, like pop-up ads, as well as trackers online.

Both 1Blocker and Total Adblock couldn’t totally hide our fingerprint, but Total Adblock blocked interstitial ads better. Interstitial ads are full-page ads that cover your page, usually when you’re accessing a website, going from one page to another, or scrolling your phone. So it really does balance out when it comes to which ad blocker is safer or blocks more.

Winner: Total Adblock. Both ad blockers are strong and offer a lot of protection against ads and trackers, but Total Adblock is just a bit better at blocking different types of ads.

Compatibility is going to be better for Total Adblock because 1Blocker was built specifically for macOS and iOS and doesn’t claim to work with Windows or Android. For macOS or iOS users, having a powerful product for their platforms that offers all of the features is usually rare. Most software that’s built for both Windows and Apple platforms usually lacks features and functionality for the Mac and iOS versions.

1Blocker does not offer robust customer support options, which makes sense given its low cost. We find that software with lower prices tends to lack customer support options. As a way to combat this, we suggest reading the FAQs and other help topics ahead of time so you can troubleshoot if a problem arises. You’ll be able to clear issues up faster and not have to wait for a response to keep using the program.

Winner: Total Adblock. It offers more compatibility for a variety of devices.

Total Adblock vs. 1Blocker FAQs

+

Is 1Blocker free or premium?

1Blocker offers both a free and premium product. The free version is limited, allowing you to activate one category at a time. The premium version allows you to have as many categories active as you like. We like keeping the ad, trackers, annoyances, and scripts blocked, as well as the firewall active.

+

How is 1Blocker different from Total Adblock?

1Blocker is different from Total Adblock because it’s built exclusively for Apple operating systems. Total Adblock offers compatibility with Windows, Android, macOS, and iOS. 1Blocker is available only for macOS and iOS, which means Windows and Android users won’t be able to use it at all. While 1Blocker is the best ad blocker for iPhone, Total Adblock is one of the best overall ad blockers.

+

Is Total Adblock the best ad blocker?

Total Adblock is a reliable, trustworthy ad blocker. It’s hard to say whether it’s the best because what’s best for one person might not work for another. We think iOS and macOS users benefit greatly from the integration that comes with 1Blocker, so Total Adblock might not be the best for those users.

+

What are the disadvantages of Total Adblock?

Some of Total Adblock’s disadvantages include its limited functionality with its free plan. It restricts what sites are blocked when you use the free plan, forcing you to upgrade to a paid version if you want the full benefit. In addition, the starter price increases upon renewal, and the new annual price is significantly higher.

+

What's the best free ad blocker?

There are several free ad blockers available, but we think uBlock Origin does the job right. The software is a little technical, but because it’s open source, it’s constantly being monitored by the internet community at large. That’s not to say it’s the only free ad blocker you should consider, but it is powerful enough to keep you safe online.

Total Adblock vs. 1Blocker: Which is better?

Total Adblock is definitely better for people with a variety of devices, and it really shines on Windows. If you’re exclusively an Apple user, however, you should consider 1Blocker. We use it ourselves and have for a while now. But our team also includes Total Adblock users, so you know both products are backed by experts.

You might not think an ad blocker is something worth investing in, but ads, trackers, and scripts leave you vulnerable to increased spam and scams. Sometimes they even contain malware and other issues that can cause you a world of problems. The internet is an important tool, but you need to keep yourself protected. Ad blockers are an effective addition to any security stack.

Total Adblock vs. 1Blocker alternatives

The best ad blockers available all offer the ability to not only clean up your online experience but also protect you from hidden malware. Ad blockers can also reduce spam and scam attempts by hiding you from online tracking software. Here are some of our other favorites:

  • Surfshark CleanWeb: If you like Surfshark VPN, you’ll be equally as impressed by CleanWeb. It covers unlimited devices and blocks all ads, including YouTube ads. It doesn’t hurt that CleanWeb is a part of the Surfshark cybersecurity bundle.
