Both Total Adblock and 1Blocker offer free and paid plans. We tested each plan for each product and found that the paid plans are superior to their free counterparts. Total Adblock free gives you some decent protection, but it leaves out over 15,000 of the most popular websites. You’ll need the paid subscription to block those.
1Blocker free works across the web, but you can use only one category at a time. We really liked the firewall, ad blocking, annoyance blocking, tracker blocking, and comment blocking functionalities, which were all useful and really improved our online experience. We tested these ad blockers against three popular sites: AdBlock Tester, Cover Your Tracks, and Can You Block It. AdBlock Tester checks how well the ad blocker stops contextual advertisements, banner ads, analytics tools, and error monitoring. Cover Your Tracks tests if the ad blocker can stop tracking ads and invisible trackers. Plus, it checks to see whether your digital fingerprint is unique and, therefore, more trackable. Can You Block It tests whether your browser can block warning pop-ups, banner ads, and interstitial ads.
Again, we found that Total Adblock and 1Blocker are matched equally. Each of the tests we ran evaluates the ad blocking power and how well the ad blocker can hide you from various ads, like pop-up ads, as well as trackers online.

Both 1Blocker and Total Adblock couldn’t totally hide our fingerprint, but Total Adblock blocked interstitial ads better. Interstitial ads are full-page ads that cover your page, usually when you’re accessing a website, going from one page to another, or scrolling your phone. So it really does balance out when it comes to which ad blocker is safer or blocks more.

Compatibility is going to be better for Total Adblock because 1Blocker was built specifically for macOS and iOS and doesn’t claim to work with Windows or Android. For macOS or iOS users, having a powerful product for their platforms that offers all of the features is usually rare. Most software that’s built for both Windows and Apple platforms usually lacks features and functionality for the Mac and iOS versions.
1Blocker does not offer robust customer support options, which makes sense given its low cost. We find that software with lower prices tends to lack customer support options.
