Easy set up, a pleasure to use
I'm reviewing this product from the perspective of an amateur artist who plans to use this tablet for enjoyment and recreation, as opposed to, for instance, professional aspirations. Specifically, my interest is in sketching and cartooning.I tested this tablet on a Windows 10 computer. Using the provided 3-in-1 cable, I connected the tablet to my computer via HDMI and the black USB-A connector. I did not need the red USB-A connector, which provides auxiliary power in the event that the black USB-A is insufficient. The tablet was immediately detected and all I needed to do was duplicate my computer's display to both my monitor and the tablet. Other than that, the tablet was simple plug-and-play, though I did download the drivers prior to writing this review to ensure the best and most up-to-date experience. I found the XP-Pen website to be professionally designed and easy to navigate, with all the drivers and documentation for my particular tablet model simple to find. It is reassuring to know that this product is well-supported by the manufacturer and therefore likely offers some longevity in terms of future updates.I did not test the product with an Android device as I lacked a fully functional USB-C cable, which is not included with the kit.I appreciate the subtle resistance of this tablet's drawing surface, which makes the experience of drawing somewhat more comparable to the sensation of pushing a pencil across actual paper--at least compared to other tablet surface types. For example, I've used drawing tablets that had a much smoother and glass-like surface, which allowed the pen to glide with less friction. I, myself, prefer having slight tactile feedback in my fingers, which again, helps to simulate the experience of pencil drawing.I found the pen precision to be very good, at least for my non-professional needs, as I was able to draw lines fairly close together and the nib tip was well-centered with the on-screen cursor position. I could also apply varying levels of pen pressure to adjust the darkness of my lines, though the ability to adjust pen sensitivity will vary depending on the drawing program used (i.e. I tested with two different freeware applications). I successfully re-programmed the physical shortcut buttons to suit my most frequent tasks. The pen does not need to be manually charged, which is handy. It comes with a 10 replacement nibs plus a nibs extractor, though I had to search online for instructions to figure out how to replace the nib.The tablet has convenient physical buttons for adjusting the brightness level. The screen itself has a matte-like finish rather than glossy, which I personally found placed less strain on my eyes and softened the potentially distracting glare of overhead lights. I felt like I could stare at this screen for long periods of time without discomfort, which is a very important factor for extended projects. At the time of this review, this tablet sells for $299 CAD (with an optional $199 coupon). At the $299 price, the one thing I'll say that is that the screen size is smaller than what is offered with other drawing tablets sold at a similar price point. While screen size isn't necessarily the only or even key element that drives the usefulness of a drawing tablet, it's worth mentioning here as a relevant purchasing factor in the event that a prospective buyer is aiming for the largest drawing surface available in this price range.Bottom line: I enjoyed using this tablet very much and it provided all the functions I needed. The more I used it, the more I wanted to keep using it.

I bought this for my daughter after reading reviews. It's very easy to use. She definitely didn't need anything this fancy but loves it. I'm actually jealous. I played with I while setting it up. Very accurate. She uses a website to draw with. Seems to work great with the screen. The pen is awesome! She sat and drew for hours! Spent more than I planned to but it was worth the quality. I was looking at smaller 11 inch tablets but I'm glad I went with this one, it's huge!
It's quite heavy so I don't recommend moving it. Definitely find a permanent spot for it.

I use this for my comic art, and it’s perfect. Extremely good product for the price. The cursor lags behind the pen tip sometimes, but it’s good enough that I don’t mind/notice most of the time. If I don’t have too many windows open and programs running at the same time it’s usually pretty good. And I love that it comes with all the cords and an extra pen, whereas other companies make you pay extra for all the other items. This one is all inclusive. It would be nice if they included an HDMI cable that had one end made for my MacBook Air (the small port version of HDMI). Luckily I had my own already. I did have a very hard time with the setup, but once I Went to their website for help and did the online chat, they walked me through EVERY step, right back to the beginning, and it was so easy after that. VERY happy with this- use it every day.

This is a Macbook Pro M2 point of view. First off, I’ll say that I am no expert on this type of product, and I don’t have experience with other drawing tablets with a screen, therefore I have no baseline frame of reference. These are my observations that other first-time users may find useful.

Out of the box, the XP Pen Artist 12 2nd Gen, looks and feels good. The driver download is pretty straightforward, but I can’t say the same about the driver installation. After going through the motions of installing the driver, I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to use the tablet, even though I could see that XP Pen was installed on my computer. I went through each step, and felt I had done everything, but then realized that there is a second step. For that step you have to go into the program on your hard drive and initiate the driver installation. I don’t know if this is a Macbook version (Sonoma) thing or the way XP Pen gets set up in the first step. I eventually got both the tablet and pen to work, but had to muddle my way through. Although not super helpful, the detailed instructions are only available on their website, so I suggest spending some time on that as it will take more than a few mouse-clicks to get everything to work. Once you’re connected, the product is exactly as described, and definitely great value.

There are a couple of additional points to note. The first is that the product does not ship with a USB C to C connector, which would have been ideal for me because my laptop has only USB C inputs and one HDMI. Using the provided 3-pronged HDMI cable causes a lot of clutter, and you’d still need USB 3 to USB C adapters to be able to connect to a similar machine as mine. I eventually purchased a USB C to C connector from XP Pen, which is probably what they want you to do anyways. Watch out about buying a USB C connector from other vendors, as the recessed input on the tablet is quite tight and may not accept other connectors. Perhaps that is designed to make it difficult to use other brands, as I see no practical reason for that design.

Setting up the screen resolution to be workable, took some time with having to try out all combinations. I am using Clip Studio Paint. To get the most workable interface the XP Pen display has to be set up as the primary display and the computer screen as the mirror. This can get tricky if you are multi-tasking. There does not appear to be a setting that allows both screens to be used as independent displays, or perhaps I haven’t figured that out. Finally, when the computer enters sleep mode, so does the tablet. However, it doesn’t work the other way around. You have to switch off the tablet and on again to resume.

All things considered, this is a good product, but perhaps less user or pocket friendly out of the box.

I am actually not a professional artist, just someone who is interested in drawing and likes the idea of being able to draw and learn to draw without using up a lot of paper. There is that and also the monitor I have been using for over 10 years is showing signs of age (slow to turn on). So, I thought it would be good to use this as my main monitor and use my old one as a secondary.
I have been using it for the past 2 weeks and I would have to say it has been great.
They did well in their packaging to protect the tablet and everything you need is within it. The tablet display can connect with either HDMI or DVI and the input control is through USB-C, but they include a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-A cable. Also included are two stylists, multiple nibs, a manual, and a drawing glove.
In terms of use, it is quite easy to download the driver from their website. I still have to learn and memorize the shortcuts, especially the ones on the right side. But it is easy enough to customize.
The only thing I would advise against is using this as a gaming monitor if you care about frame rates. Sometimes the screen would flicker when loading up games like League of Legends, which should not be the main reason you use this for.

love it. fantastic size to work with.

rotary encoders are physical switches, sadly, not optical, so, they click and aren't as sensitive as I'd wanted. buttons themselves are nice.

pens are nice, much better feel than the 15.6 model even though they look the same.

adjustable stand is really nicely done. clicks into place, feels super solid and reliable.

hdmi port on it doesn't work with a displayport to hdmi converter on windows. definitely a software glitch. works 100% otherwise.

had some issues with the pen mapping to the correct screen on a multi-display setup, but, I solved it by making it the primary screen, now its never an issue. updating drivers didn't consistently fix it.

color accuracy is good, maybe a bit too contrasty. it is a high quality screen, could use a calibration file that the manufacturer doesn't seem to supply.

5.0 out of 5 stars Total begeistert, wenn auch...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not good for mixed resolutions

I can't complain about the quality - it is as advertised (so far). My mistake was in getting a 1920 x 1080 resolution display to go with my existing Dell monitor which is 2560 x1440. My intention was to split my application interface panes across two screens but I soon found that they don't adapt to the lower resolution so, for example, the bottom of the pane is hidden behind the Windows task bar at the bottom of the screen.
So, as a second display, it is not very effective. I haven't used its drawing/painting capabilities enough yet to comment but first impressions are good enough. I have to say that, had I realised the problem with the resolution mismatch, I would have opted for a non-dislplay drawing pad at a much lower cost.
