This jar comes with a rubber seal that keeps it air tight, which is very important to prevent your starter from drying out when storing it in the fridge. You can easily use it on the countertop when keeping your starter active, by simply closing the lid, but not sealing it tightly with the metal clasp or covering the jar with a fabric lid cover or cloth. I'm not sure that I'll use the markings on the jar, as I feed by weight, not volume but if you use volume measurements, you will appreciate this feature. The glass is a perfect thickness and the blue lid is very pretty. I'm not sure that I will use the chalkboard stickers and chalk that came with the jar for this jar, but they will come in handy for something, I have no doubt. I love that this jar is dishwasher safe because keeping your sourdough starter germ/bad bacteria/bad yeast/fungus free is important for the health of your starter. I am extremely pleased with this purchase!

I'm not sure why they call this a starter jar as it just comes with stickers and chalk to write on said stickers plus the resealable jar. Most starter sets come with a thermometer, fabric lid for use to start the sourdough primer, and other tools needed for creating a fresh sourdough base. I got this as a second jar to use with my already establish sourdough base allowing me to more easily clean the jars by just transferring the jar in which my starter is living back and forth once a week. Not having to worry about keeping the base safe while I clean, sanitize, and dry my jar is great. The lid seals and unlatches easily with the metal clasp. Perfect for your established sourdough base or other kitchen needs.

This is a pretty jar in a subtle shade of blue. Looks nice on the countertop holding my sourdough. Has measurements on the side in both ounces and cups. Holds a good amount of sourdough. I may start using this one to keep my discard in. The only thing I don't like about it is the wire closure seems a bit flimsy. Time will tell as to how well it will hold up.

This Sourdough starter jar is very well made and the measurements printed on the sides of the jar are both in ounces and metric. The "chalk board" labels are a nice touch if one wants to use them to record fermenting information on them. The lid is attached to the jar on a hinge type connector which might present issues for those wanting a totally unrestricted jar opening (using a cloth cap for breathing of the starter) but that is a small workaround to avoid. Pleased with the jar.

I have some cloth elastic covers for use with a jar outside the fridge (you want the starter to breathe)- they work here but take a little finagling. The purpose ultimately AFAIK is to keep dust and stuff out. When I need to refrigerate the started this jar is perfect- seals nicely but is also easy to open.

The blue lid is really nice. The gradations are good to have for tracking "growth" as well. It's a little expensive though.

This jar looks really nice. It has cute shape, measurement markings, and the just the tiniest touch of blue on the lid, really makes it look nice.
It says it is for sourdough starter, and will work great for that, but it's a really nice all purpose jar and could be used for lots of other things as well.
