A good tool for reasonable tasks
The WG505 comes with a bag. Tool is loud, wear ear protection. Tool is heavy and well built with metal blade. I did not use or need the blower so no comment. It picks up and spits out acorns. It has good suction and so that it blows the mulched leaves to back of bag hence minimum clog at fill. Worked nicely on pea-gravel, grass and some plants. I liked working with it and will continue to appreciate it. On/off switch was very very hard to manipulate - annoyance. Now for the rest of the story. First this is not badly made; it is strong but it is also powerful. I noticed there was a hole in the casing around the metal mulcher chamber. Clearly something had been sucked up into the chamber and flung to the interior chamber side and broke through. There were also about three linear cracks in the chamber side. After looking at the damage and the work to be done, I decided to cover the casing hole with strong hose and use duct tape to reinforce the slight cracks and hold the "hole repair" in place.I was able to operate it satisfactorily to fill the collection bag six times before night fall. I will consider further ways to keep it going in a more robust way.My point is that I don't feel the materials were low grad; the task it encountered was beyond plan. My advice is judge the task and realize that the task needs to be balanced with design.MY EDIT: As I said in my original review; this works well and does the job. This is four days later and I wanted to examine the "repair" that I made to evaluate how well it worked. While the duck tape had covered the hole, the force of the air produced by the tool had produced a few leaks. I made adjustments and began work. After a couple of hours, I realized there was more dust created than before and it was not sucking up as robustly as before. I examined the tool and saw two holes on the other side of the mulcher chamber causing the dust. I finished what I was doing ignoring the dust. Upon looking under the "repair" I learned that some parts of the housing were now held on only by the repairs I had made. The mulching blade appears to by in pristine shape but the enclosure is substantially compromised.I am returning the tool and requesting a replacement with the hope and expectation that the one I received was defective. I decided to read all the "1" reviews and there were about half dozen with experience such as mine but the product gets good reviews for the purpose I want. I did not change the number of stars because I really think it is a good product. If I succeed in getting a replacement, I will update this again.UPDATE OF REVIEW. I received a replacement quickly and have been using it for 4-5 days, probably 20-25 hours. Everything has gone well and I am very pleased. I am more careful to avoid acorns and have made special effort to keep the intake of the tool 1-2 inches above the ground to acorns, nuts, small rocks. The power is sufficient that the leaves "jump" up. Swinging it back and forth helps avoid leave hanging up because you get them on the "back swing". I added a video to show it solves leaves laying on plants, the suction continues even as the bag fills (this was about 2/3 full), and it is heavy but can be handled. It is loud so be prepared and finally, the on/off switch was much easier to use.

I made a poor decision purchasing this item. The blower works well enough but the vacuum feature is pathetic. I have to hold items up to it in order for them to be vacuumed in. Plus it is very HEAVY. I am 200#, 5'11" male and I had a hard time lugging this around my yard. A neighbor thought you could detach the vacuum motor from the blower. He was wrong. All you can do is turn a dial to either blow or vacuum. But the entire tool remains as one single piece. I am keeping it in any case. If need be I will just buy a blower alone. My neighbors have done that and the ones they have are light enough to use. I just thought I need to suck up grass and dead leaves. I do but this isn't the item to purchase to do that.

Update: 2018-11-20
I have dramatically changed my evaluation from 2 stars to 5 stars. I finally learned how to use this properly. First, the strap around the bag is meant to go over your shoulder to support the weight of the blower/vacuum. Putting the strap at the proper length makes all of the difference in the world for comfort and ease of use. It is a matter of trial and error until it feels right, which it now does for me.

The vacuum really works very well. I don't know what I was thinking of with my first rating of 2 stars which criticized the vacuum as 'pathetic.' It is not. It is just like running your home vacuum over a carpet except here you are running it over grass. I found that it even picked up wet leaves that had been pushed into the soil because they had been walked over. You do have to be very careful not to vacuum up semi-branches because they can jam in the rotor which breaks up the debris. The rotor turns to create the vacuum. If the branch is a twig, it will work but if you hear a 'seizing' noise after sucking up any solid object, even thick mulch, turn it off and remove the front section so that you can see the rotor blades. Use needle nose plier to pull out the offending item.

I just vacuumed up the leaves from a 5,000 square foot yard with relative ease and had no noticeable strain on my arms or back. It was a lot easier than raking. And, if the leaves are 'blow around' dry, the vacuum picks them so easily as to make it 'fun' -- almost!!!

It is important to empty the bag whenever you sense that the vacuum suction is weakening. It takes less than a minute to empty the bag into a disposable bag. Once you have done so and you returning to vacuuming up the leaves, you will notice the increased strength of the vacuum.

While it does have the ability to work as a blower, I use a dedicated cordless blower which is easier to handle, gives me freedom to go where I want rather than being tethered to a cord, and works it a bit stronger than this blower. I use a worx 32 v blower. But, it is nice to have the option of using the blower immediately if the need arises.

Also, I use a 50 foot 16 gauge extension cord which gives me just enough freedom to work on my entire yard. I have several outdoor outlet around my house.

I highly recommend this for keeping your lawn clean of leaf debris.

This is my first new leaf blower/vac after many years of using the Craftsman brand - those older models were around $100 bucks, and I picked this WORX unit (WG505) up for around $60. How do they compare?

Well, immediately I'm liking the ergonomics of this WORX vac - it's lighter than my old Craftsman, yet it has about the same amount of power.

It's a cinch to change from vac to blower - you just have to flip a lever. No more tube flipping! I don't know if this is a common feature nowadays, but it's VERY convenient!

The collection bag is a bit smaller than on the Craftsman, but it seems better made overall - the one thing that always failed was the ridiculously tiny zippers on the Craftsman bags. The zipper on the WORX is much more robust, and feels like it will be dependable much longer.

One thing I don't care for is that the impeller access button is very close to the on/off switch. If you're not paying attention, you can press the wrong one. Plus, while it's good to be able to get at the impeller so easily to clear any jams, you'll want to make absolutely sure you unplug the tool before you do so.

Performance? About the same as my old Craftsman blower, although I think the compacting ratio on the Craftsman is better. Still, I like that I can use the blower feature on the WORX to herd the leaves together (not in big heaps), then easily switch to the vacuum function to pick them up.

If you have a small to medium size lot with a couple of trees that just shed leaves, this should do a reasonable job. I wouldn't use it to try to pick up pine cones or to clean a large area that has many trees. Overall, for what I paid for it, thumbs up! :)
