One really great phone - The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE
I have to say at that start of this review I am a Samsung fan a big Samsung fan. Despite experimenting with various phone brands in the past, I consistently find myself returning to Samsung, lured by the exceptional build quality, captivating screen, enduring battery life, and the inherent adaptability of their handsets. They keep going and going and still look good after years of abuse by my kids.A quick overviews, it appears FE standing for Fan Edition, representing the apex of the 'S' series without the customary hefty price tag. Nestled between the Samsung A54 and the standard S23, this device proudly boasts 8GB RAM and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 engine, initially featured in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It successfully strikes a balance, catering to both the mature and youthful audience with an array of colours – mint, indigo blue, purple, or tangerine for the bold, and cream or graphite for those inclined towards a more subdued aesthetic. True to the Samsung 'S' family tradition, it packs a multitude of built-in conveniences and functionalities suitable for all users.Dimensions, Weight, and Display:Slightly larger than its predecessor, the S23, this phone, weighing in at 209g, exudes a robust and well-built feel with a 158 x 76.5 x 8.2mm chassis. Ample size provides an expansive screen real estate, making it convenient to handle while effortlessly fitting into pockets or bags.Display, Resolution, and Refresh Rate:The Galaxy S23 FE employs the tried-and-tested Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform from the Galaxy S22 family. Despite its 2.5-year age, it remains powerful enough to seamlessly run a variety of applications, complemented by the 8GB of RAM shared with the Galaxy S23.Camera, Battery, and Charging:The camera array impresses, particularly for its price, featuring a 10MP telephoto zoom lens with 3X optical zoom alongside wide and ultra-wide lenses. The 3X optical zoom outperforms the digital zoom seen in comparable phones. Fun photo modes, like the 'Food mode,' add a warm colour tone and background blur, although some night photos may pose challenges. As expected from a 'S' class Samsung, wireless charging is a given, and it can even charge other wireless peripherals on the move. The 4,500 mAh battery ensures commendable longevity, lasting well beyond a dayIn Conclusion:When deciding on a phone investment, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is a worthy choice. To find a phone superior to this, you'd have pay a higher price.

I have been using the s23 FE for two weeks now. I absolutely love the pastel green colour and the size of the phone. I was worried it would be heavy but it is not and I quickly got used to it. It is a very high quality phone and doesn’t not feel like cheap plastic. It is so fast and all my apps run so smoothly and open very quickly. I love the facial recognition feature it is very accurate and super quick to setup. In terms of the battery life it lasts me all day which is brilliant. It is a usb c and you get the cable in the box but the adapter is sold separately. The camera is also good quality. It features a portrait mode that focuses on the main subject and it makes the photo look great almost like professional quality. I would definitely recommend this phone for any user and you won’t be disappointed. I’m so pleased and it is definitely worth the money.

Unboxing this was a pleasure although I was disappointed there was no stylish plug to go with it. The phone was a welcome upgrade from my S10+. First appearance was sleek and modern. I love the green colour and this feels more robust than my last phone. Transferring data from my last phone was a breeze and easy to do even for those not technologically minded. The screen size and ease of use is excellent. Touch screen facility is very responsive. Using this over the past few days the battery lasts a long time and the operating system is quick. Camera quality is great and I'm looking forward to seeing what it can really do. It comes with 256GB which will be welcome as I take a lot of photos. Pros for me are battery life, easy of use, speed and photo quality. The only con would be the lack of plug. I'd definitely recommend this phone to others.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE landed in October 2023, aiming to bridge the gap between premium features and mid-range affordability. Packing a powerful processor, a versatile camera system, and a vibrant display, it's certainly tempting. But let's dive deeper and see if the S23 FE truly lives up to its "fan edition" moniker. First impressions are good. The S23 FE ditches the plastic back of its predecessor for a sleek glass panel, available in Graphite, Lavender, Mint, and White. While not as luxurious as the true S23 series' metal frame, it still feels solid and premium. The bezels are slightly thicker than expected, hinting at its non-flagship status. The 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED display shines with a 120Hz refresh rate for buttery smooth scrolling. Colors are vibrant and punchy, thanks to Samsung's signature AMOLED technology. Brightness is ample even under direct sunlight, making outdoor use a breeze. The S23 FE packs a punch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM. This combo tackles everyday tasks and even heavier gaming with ease. Multitasking is a joy, with apps switching seamlessly without a hint of lag. On the software front, the S23 FE runs Android 13 with Samsung's One UI 5.1 on top. The interface is clean and intuitive, with plenty of customization options. Samsung promises 4 years of OS upgrades and 5 years of security patches, ensuring your phone stays up-to-date for years to come. The camera system is one of the S23 FE's highlights. The triple-lens setup consists of a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and an 8MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. Photos captured in daylight are stunning, with excellent detail and natural colors. Low-light performance is respectable, with the dedicated Night mode working its magic to salvage details in darker environments. The telephoto lens offers decent zoom capabilities, although some image noise creeps in at higher magnifications. Video recording goes up to 8K at 24fps, making the S23 FE a solid choice for content creators. The 4,500mAh battery provides decent endurance, lasting a full day for most users with moderate usage. The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE (256GB) is a compelling offering in the mid-range segment. It delivers flagship-worthy performance, a great camera system, and a vibrant display, all at a price tag that's more palatable than its true flagship siblings.

I bought this to replace an S10 which I was happy with, apart from the battery starting to die. The S23 FE is a nice replacement in many ways, but it doesn't offer much that I couldn't do with the S10. It's a nice form factor - flat screen, solid feel, no pointless Bixby button. It's quite weighty, but I like that. Performance is good, and the screen is very nice. I know some people aren't a fan of Samsung's One UI Android adaptation but I've always liked it and it's still good here.
The three cameras are pretty good, but I do find the Samsung software over-processes images making them look over-saturated to the point of being a bit unreal. And particularly with the 3x camera, images are often over-sharpened for my taste.
I was able to claim the free pair of Buds FE which took a few weeks to arrive, but are pretty good and made up for the loss of a headphone socket.
Some minor quibbles:
- Only one speaker. Not a big problem in itself but it's placed where I typically put my finger to support the phone when holding it one-handed so the speaker is blocked.
- The under-screen fingerprint reader is so-so. I have a screen protector (which claimed to be fingerprint reader friendly), so that may be the problem, but I found it very hard to register prints. Once registered they usually work, but it can be hit and miss. I don't trust face recognition so haven't tried that.
- No heartrate measurer or SPO2 sensor. I didn't much trust the latter on my S10, but the heartrate monitor was nice and I miss it on the S23 FE.

Google's 'circle to search' works very well and it's quick - pretty impressive, although I'm not sure how useful.

Summary: Given that my old phone needed replacing, I'm happy with this as a good solid phone at a decent price and with a feel of quality. But I can't say it's a huge upgrade.
