Introduction
Samsung fans had high hopes from the Galaxy Z Flip 6, considering that it followed one of the biggest revamps for this series, but it was also understood that the scope of upgrades in this latest model would be limited.
That was entirely the case with the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which merely built upon the sound foundation that its predecessor provided, while also introducing some changes that users had long been waiting for.
Design and display
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 did get some noticeable changes to its design as Samsung opted for more flatter surfaces and sharper corners. The speaker grille was replaced in favor of a speaker slit. The company also made it slimmer compared to its predecessor, which is always a welcome change.
Durability has been improved with a new IP48 rating for enhanced water resistance, a toughened up dual rail hinge, and further strengthening of the internal foldable display that sees its creased being reduced as well.
The cover display remains the same 3.4-inch with a resolution of 720 x 748 and a 60Hz refresh rate. You'll find a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display with a 2,640 x 1,080 resolution and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate on the inside.
Specifications
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset globally. 12GB RAM is standard with 256GB and 512GB storage options. No microSD card option exists for memory expansion.
Samsung improved the camera setup with the addition of a new 50MP primary sensor with Dual Pixel AutoFocus and OIS paired with a 12MP ultrawide camera. The internal foldable panel has a 10MP selfie camera as well. The company granted a longstanding wish of Flip fans and upped the battery capacity to 4,000mAh with 25W fast charging support.
Software and features
Android 14 comes pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with One UI 6.1.1. The device is eligible for seven Android OS upgrades from Samsung, in addition to as many, if not more, security maintenance updates.
Samsung did introduce a bunch of new Galaxy AI features with the device, such as Sketch to Image, Portrait Studio mode, AI-powered Auto Zoom for Flex Cam, and more. Samsung also integrated Google's Gemini app in the software.
Availability and price
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 6 at its Unpacked event on July 10 in Paris, France, with the device hitting shelves on July 24 and prices starting at $1,099. Available color options include Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue, and Mint.
