Introduction

Launched in March 2024, the Galaxy A35 is a mid-range phone that takes Samsung's Galaxy A3x lineup to new heights in the design, display, and camera categories. It also brings some of the features that were offered on 2023's Galaxy A54 to a lower price point.

Design

The Galaxy A35 is the first phone in the series to feature a design with a glass back. It also gets upgraded Gorilla Glass protection for the display. It uses the more scratch and drop-resistant Gorilla Glass Victus+ instead of the A34's Gorilla Glass 5.

The Galaxy A35 has a flat plastic frame between the two slabs of glass and comes with Samsung's Key Island design element, which raises the frame around the volume and power buttons. Like its predecessors, the A35 comes with an IP67 rating, making it completely protected against dust ingress and able to survive in freshwater at depths as low as 0.5 meters for up to 30 minutes.

The Galaxy A35 weighs 209 grams and measures 161.7 x 78 x 8.2 mm. It has three color options: Awesome Iceblue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy.

Display

The Galaxy A35 features a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels (Full HD+) and a 120Hz refresh rate. Thanks to the Vision Booster feature, the A35 display can reach a maximum brightness of 1000 nits in high brightness mode.

Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects the display, and an optical fingerprint sensor resides underneath. It also has Eye Care Certification from SGS for its ability to reduce the harmful effects of blue light, which can be enabled using the Eye Comfort Shield feature on the device.

Specifications

The Galaxy A35 boasts a more modern chipset than its predecessor. The Exynos 1380 powering it offers better gaming and machine learning performance thanks to a faster GPU and NPU (neural processing unit) and is cooled by a vapor chamber that is 70% larger than the one inside the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54.

Samsung offers the phone with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage, with the option to expand storage by up to 1TB using a microSD card. It is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery that can charge at a maximum speed of 25W when using a compatible charger that is sold separately.

The A35 features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support but misses a 3.5mm headphone port. Connectivity features include 5G, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax 2.4GHz+5GHz), Bluetooth 5.3, all popular location technologies (GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo, QZSS), and a USB-C port.

Camera

The Galaxy A35 comes with a 50MP primary rear camera with an F1.8 aperture, optical image stabilization, and digital zoom up to 10x. The phone can record videos at up to 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) at 30 fps. The rear camera setup also includes an 8MP F2.2 ultra-wide sensor and a 5MP F2.4 macro sensor. For selfies, the A35 features a 13MP camera. Samsung boasts improved nighttime pictures compared to the Galaxy A34 thanks to an improved algorithms courtesy of a newer NPU.

Software and Features

The Galaxy A35 comes with Android 14 and One UI 6.1 out of the box, with support for four major OS upgrades and security updates for five years. One UI 6.1 brings a slew of new features and improvements to the existing One UI experience. However, the A35 lacks the Galaxy AI features that made their debut on the Galaxy S24 lineup in early 2024.

Availability and Price

The Galaxy A35 was announced on March 11, 2024 and went on sale in some countries on the same day. It was priced at €379 and €449 for the 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB configurations respectively in Europe.
