Paramount has released its first trailer for ‘Gladiator II,’ the long-awaited sequel to the 2000 historical drama that took the world by storm, and it’s shaping up to have an all-star cast worthy of the legendary franchise (the original film is #36 on IMDb’s Top 250 Movies chart). Director Ridley Scott has assembled an impressive ensemble of veteran stars and rising talents to bring the next chapter of this ancient Roman saga to life. Who are the players? IMDb has broken down the trailer to give fans the scoop on the cast and characters.
Paul Mescal as Lucius
Leading the way is Paul Mescal as Lucius, the son of Lucilla, who we saw as a young boy shadowing the legendary gladiator Maximus (played by Russell Crowe) in the original film. Mescal gained popularity starring opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones in the Hulu series “Normal People,” and since then the actor has quickly become one of Hollywood's hottest young stars. More recently, he costarred with Andrew Scott in ‘All of Us Strangers’ and gained an Oscar nomination for his role in ‘Aftersun.’ ‘Gladiator II’ is a huge opportunity for Mescal to cement himself as a leading man on the big screen.
Denzel Washington as Macrinus
Acting royalty Denzel Washington needs no introduction, and the two-time Oscar winner joins the cast as the Roman emperor Macrinus. A powerful ruler of the Roman Empire should be a juicy role for Washington to sink his teeth into, judging by the way he chews up the scenery in the trailer.
Pedro Pascal as Marcus Acacius
Pedro Pascal continues his meteoric rise with a key role as Marcus Acacius, a Roman general. Fresh off the massive success of HBO’s “The Last of Us,” Pascal will lend his leading man charisma and geek cred to this sword-and-sandal epic in a supporting role as the target of Mescal’s revenge.
Joseph Quinn as Emperor Geta
Joseph Quinn is best known for his stint as Eddie Munson, the beloved metalhead from Season 4 of “Stranger Things.” That role earned him the top spot on IMDb’s STARmeter for three weeks straight in 2022. He’s currently the most popular cast member from ‘Gladiator II’ on IMDb, thanks to his current hit, ‘A Quiet Place: Day One,’ in which he costars with Lupita Nyong’o. In ‘Gladiator II,’ he'll play the villainous Emperor Geta in a role that will likely draw comparisons to Joaquin Phoenix’s Commodus from the first ‘Gladiator.’
Connie Nielsen as Lucilla
Connie Nielsen reprises her role as Lucilla from the original ‘Gladiator,’ bringing gravitas and history to the sprawling story. Her regal presence should anchor the film's family dynamics. Fans may also recognize Nielsen from her role as Hippolyta in DC’s ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Wonder Woman 1984.’
Fred Hechinger as Emperor Caracalla
Fred Hechinger, the talented young actor who had key roles in Season 1 of “The White Lotus” and in Netflix’s ‘Fear Street’ trilogy and recently starred in the indie comedy ‘Thelma,’ takes a very different turn here as the insane Emperor Caracalla. From his wild performance seen in the trailer, Hechinger will get to demonstrate his range as an antagonist.
With an ensemble blending decorated veterans like Washington and Pascal with hot new stars like Mescal and Quinn, ‘Gladiator II’ has a cast befitting its huge ambitions to revive one of cinema's most acclaimed franchises. Fans can look forward to this impressive line-up of talent facing off in the Colosseum when the film hits theaters in November 2024.

The end of the Conjuring story is now in sight. New Line has set a Sept. 5, 2025, release date for the untitled fourth Conjuring movie, which the studio is billing as a finale for the main set of films.
Michael Chavez is directing the movie after helming 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. He is a Conjuring mainstay, also known for the 2023 Conjuring spinoff, The Nun II. Screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick penned the script.
James Wan helmed the original The Conjuring, which bowed in 2013 and earned nearly $320 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. The series centers on supernatural investigators Ed and Lorrain Warren, played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Combined with its spinoff movies, the franchise has grossed more than $2 billion globally. In addition to the Conjuring and Nun movies, the universe has launched a series of Annabelle features, focused on a doll first featured in The Conjuring.

He released the novel in 2023 via publisher Drawn & Quarterly.
Robert Funke, the creator behind the series On Becoming a God in Central Florida, will write.
Lawrence will produce alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver, which was behind Sony comedy No Hard Feelings. Lawrence and A24 recently announced another project — a murder mystery based on the Real Housewives reality franchise for Apple — and worked together on the Oscar-nominated drama Causeway, in which she played a military veteran adjusting to life back home. Gird your loins. Miranda Priestly is set to deliver more withering glances in a sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Disney is developing a sequel to the hit 2006 movie starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, the high-powered fashion magazine editor from hell with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt as her harried assistants Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton.
The original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is in talks to return to pen the next chapter. Who from the original cast will return is not clear, but the storyline reportedly follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s dishy 2003 novel about a young woman’s nightmarish experience working at a fashion magazine (Weisberger worked as a personal assistant...

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for Season 3 of “Bridgerton” as well as various “Bridgerton” book plotlines.]
Fans just about lost their minds when the final moments of Season 3 of Netflix’s “Bridgerton” showed that in Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) forthcoming season, her future husband Michael will instead be Michaela (Masali Baduza), allowing Francesca to better explore her “outsider” (i.e. queer) identity following her current husband John’s (Victor Alli) death.
While much of the online fan backlash to the Michael/Michaela swap is the same frustrating feedback that often happens when showrunners elect to put a more diverse group of characters onscreen (and should therefore be ignored), some people have simply expressed disappointed that a popular romance tale that thoughtfully wrestled with infertility may lose that well-done subplot in the new TV adaptation. But that doesn’t need to be the case.

When you’re putting together a list of the biggest taboos in Western culture, death itself might not make the cut. But it should: North Americans and Europeans are chronically averse to facing death. Too many of us quietly believe if we follow the right workout regimen, eat enough kale, and take the right expensive supplements we may just live forever. It’s a predictable belief for our youth-obsessed culture. So the intrigue of zombie movies is that this genre forces us to confront death face-to-face. Or rather, death confronts us, looking to scoop out our brains and have us join its ranks.
Sometimes, zombies can bear larger metaphors on their disintegrating shoulders — for our increasingly wired yet increasingly isolated post-internet world, say, as in “Shaun of the Dead.” But sometimes zombies are just zombies: walking corpses who shuffle around and remind us that, even if we’re never somehow reanimated,...

If Scarlett Johansson as a Don Draper-level ad executive wrapped in a Joan Holloway sheath dress and in a NASA screwball rom-com opposite Channing Tatum floats your spaceflight, then “Fly Me to the Moon” hits the target square on the head for blandly reassuring, disposable throwback fare.
And to the tune of a reported $100 million budget, it’s a rare studio comedy from an original script that’s not based on anything else — unless you’re counting Apollo 11, the first-ever successful man-on-the-moon landing led by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. But Greg Berlanti’s space race comedy puts an alternative orbital spin on American history: What if said moon landing was an elaborate hoax, and what Americans saw on all three major broadcast networks in 1969 was actually staged inside NASA’s 562-feet-tall Vehicle Assembly Building, with nothing but a crew of unaccomplished nonactors, some rock formations, and a replica of the Apollo Lunar Module?...

Zoë Kravitz recently explained to Entertainment Weekly the process behind renaming her upcoming feature directorial debut, which stars Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie. The title of the project when it was first announced was “Pussy Island,” but somewhere along the line it got changed to “Blink Twice.”
“It was made very clear to me that ‘pussy’ is a word that we, our society, are not ready to embrace yet,” Kravitz said about the change. “There were a lot of roadblocks along the way, whether it be the MPAA not wanting to put it on a poster, or a billboard, or a kiosk; movie theaters not wanting to put it on a ticket.”
“Interestingly enough, after researching it, women were offended by the word, and women seeing the title were saying, ‘I don’t want to see that movie,’ which is part of the reason I wanted to try and use the word,...

Will Ferrell reunited with his “Anchorman” co-star Christina Applegate on an episode of the latter’s “Messy” podcast, where the duo reflected on the 20th anniversary of their comedy classic. Ferrell remembered the first test screening for “Anchorman” and how it did not go according to plan.
“It was such a hard movie to get made in the first place and when it finally came around to when, ‘Oh wait, now Dreamworks wants to make it,’ it just felt like we were playing with the house’s money,” Ferrell said (via IndieWire). “So we were like, ‘Ok, gosh, they’re letting us make this crazy movie. One of the best movies of 2023 is finally getting a 4K Blu-ray release in the United States. "Godzilla Minus One" is, at long last, getting a physical release in North America. What's more, Toho has pulled out all the stops as an epic four-disc collection will be arriving this fall for fans of the King of the Monsters to bring home. That's the good news. The bad news? It's expensive and won't be widely available.

I can guarantee, you've never seen Naomie Harris and Natalie Dormer quite like this. Last month's Tribeca Film Festival here in New York gave attendees a unique opportunity to get in on the ground floor for a number of the best and most fascinating non-franchise movies of the year. Of all the standouts, however, "The Wasp" was one that managed to crawl under our skin and bury itself down deep as one heck of a dark, disturbing, and unforgettable experience. Playing out almost like a stage play -- which was not a coincidence, given that it's adapting Morgan Lloyd Malcom's play of the same name -- the plot follows estranged childhood friends Heather (Harris) and Carla (Dormer), who reconnect as adults under awfully inauspicious circumstances: a good ol' fashioned murder for hire.

Sergio Leone's "A Fistful of Dollars" is not the greatest Spaghetti Western ever made, but it is widely considered to be the first. As the film that made Clint Eastwood an global movie star, it is inarguably the most significant. Most importantly in today's movie marketplace, people who've never seen a Spaghetti Western likely know the title, which makes it a viable candidate for a remake.
And this is fitting because "A Fistful of Dollars" is itself a remake. In fact, it was such a brazenly beat-for-beat copy of Akira Kurosawa's 1961 samurai classic "Yojimbo" that U.S. distributors wouldn't release Leone's film until the filmmaker settled up with the Japanese master and his backers at Toho (Kurosawa wound up making more money off this deal than he did with "Yojimbo").
Of course, "Yojimbo" wasn't an original either. Kurosawa openly acknowledged that his film was inspired by Stuart Heisler...

Zoë Kravitz was just trying to “reclaim” the word pussy. The “Batman” star, who previously played Catwoman herself, recently told Entertainment Weekly that her feature directorial debut “Pussy Island” was retitled to “Blink Twice” after she realized that some women found the term “pussy” offensive.
“Interestingly enough, after researching it, women were offended by the word, and women seeing the title were saying, ‘I don’t want to see that movie,’ which is part of the reason I wanted to try and use the word, which is trying to reclaim the word, and not make it something that we’re so uncomfortable using,” Kravitz said. “But we’re not there yet. And I think that’s something I have the responsibility as a filmmaker to listen to. I care about people seeing the film, and I care about how it makes people feel.”

Tyler Perry is showing his support for the Hollywood studio marriage of David Ellison’s Skydance Media with Paramount Global. The reported $8 billion deal will see Ellison become chairman and CEO of a boosted Paramount while former NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell will serve as president.
When asked on the red carpet at the New York premiere for his latest film “Divorce in the Black” if he had been talking to Paramount about the updates, Perry told Variety he already had a conversation about the recent turn of events: “They haven’t reached out as much as I have reached out to them to say I’m really excited about this next chapter.”

On October 21, 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed when a live round discharged from a prop gun on the set of the indie Western film “Rust.” The man holding the gun: Alec Baldwin.
For the last three years, the ins and outs of what went wrong on that day have consumed Hollywood. Few, though, imagined it might get this far, with Alec Baldwin set to stand trial in New Mexico on a charge of involuntary manslaughter that could land him in prison.
Jury selection begins today, Tuesday, July 9, with Baldwin already in attendance in court following a pre-trial hearing on Monday that even handed Baldwin’s legal team an early victory (more on that later).
We’ll be updating this space with some of the most notable updates from the trial, which will be streaming live starting tomorrow via CourtTV and Law & Crime Network on YouTube.

In the new documentary directed by David Hinton, “Made in England: The Films of Powell & Pressburger,” Martin Scorsese pays tribute to the work and life of Michael Powell and his filmmaking partner Emeric Pressburger, as he analyzes their incredible body of work through the lens of the profound influence it had on him as a director. In the film, Scorsese also discusses the friendship that developed between Powell and himself in the ’70s and ’80s, and the invaluable guidance the great British director provided at critical moments of his own career.
When Thelma Schoonmaker, Scorsese’s longtime editor who was married to Powell before he passed away in 1990, was a guest on an upcoming episode of IndieWire’s Toolkit podcast she made clear there was another side of the Scorsese-Powell relationship that wasn’t as heavily emphasized in the documentary.

The $2 billion-grossing “Conjuring” franchise gets its grand finale, with Warner Bros. dating a final “The Conjuring” movie for release in theaters and Imax on Sept. 5, 2025.
The yet-to-be titled fourth film in the supernatural horror franchise comes as Warner Bros. and New Line’s “The Conjuring” universe has expanded to include prequel, sequel and spinoff titles like “The Nun,” “Annabelle” and “The Curse of La Llorona.”
Directed by James Wan and produced by Peter Safran, 2013’s “The Conjuring” established the franchise’s mythology, following paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) as they work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. The film was a massive hit, nabbing $319 million worldwide. The franchise’s top-grossing movie to date is the 2018 prequel “The Nun,” which followed Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) as she fended off the possessed demon nun Valek in 1952 Romania. The film earned $366 million worldwide.

In a city that’s home to an endless array of overlapping film festivals (not a complaint!), Japan Cuts continues to merit special attention every July. Produced in partnership with — and hosted by — New York’s Japan Society, Japan Cuts is not only North America’s largest and most high-profile festival dedicated to Japanese film, it’s also perhaps the most well-curated, as the titles programmed across the slate’s various sections collect into a vividly comprehensive snapshot of the country’s cinematic landscape.

Dandelion (KiKi Layne) is not appreciated in her own time. She’s not appreciated at the swanky Cincinnati hotel where she sings and plays guitar three nights a week, trying her damndest to be heard over rude guests who talk during her set, jabber on their phones, or simply pretend she doesn’t exist. She’s not appreciated at home, where her ailing mother Jean (Melanie Nicholls-King) can barely be coaxed off the couch without tossing off a combative word at her daughter. And she’s not appreciated the way the same people she came up with on the local music scene are, so many of them crowding her social media feeds as they sign big deals and frequently flash their bodies for some added clout.
So when Dandelion takes off in the middle of the night, bound for the last place she expects to find anything of value for...

Jennifer Lawrence is teaming up once again with A24 for a movie adaptation of “Why Don’t You Love Me?,” the darkly comedic 2023 graphic novel by Paul B. Rainey.
Robert Funke (“On Becoming a God in Central Florida”) is writing the screenplay, as the search for a director is underway. Lawrence is also a producer alongside Justine Ciarrocchi for Excellent Cadaver; Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Emily Hildner of Square Peg are also on board. Rainey executive produces.
“Why Don’t You Love Me?” follows a miserable couple, Claire and Mark, struggling through their marriage while “feeling like something is not quite right in their reality,” teases A24. The graphic novel has been described as a “pitch-black comedy about marriage, alcoholism, depression and mourning lost opportunities,” with surprising twists along the way.

After dabbling in comedy with “No Hard Feelings,” Jennifer Lawrence is tapping back into her funny bone with a new project with A24.
Lawrence will star in and produce “Why Don’t You Love Me?” which is based on a graphic novel by Paul B. Rainey published in 2023. The logline is merely that Lawrence will star as one half of a couple struggling through their marriage while feeling like something is not quite right in their reality.
But Rainey’s book is described as a science-fiction dark comedy about marriage, alcoholism, and depression in which the couple realizes this unhappy marriage is not the life they chose for themselves upon hearing news of an impending nuclear war on the radio. Lawrence’s character is a chain-smoking stalker and couch potato who spends the bulk of her time in a bathrobe, and both she and her husband wonder if this life...

Daisy Edgar-Jones became so fascinated by the world of storm-chasing during the filming of “Twisters” that she decided to hunt down a tornado herself.
After production wrapped in December on Lee Isaac Chung’s sequel to 1996’s “Twister,” Edgar-Jones — who plays Kate Cooper, a meteorologist haunted by personal trauma — called a team of trackers she’d met on set. Together, they followed a storm cell from Kansas to Oklahoma City.
“I was desperate to see one,” Edgar-Jones admits as she sits in a North London coffee shop on a drizzly summer day. She starts to take a sip of her Americano but puts the cup back down before it reaches her lips, her doe-like brown eyes widening as she recalls the moment a Doppler radar showed a cyclone forming. They were in the wilderness looking up at a pitch-black sky that was periodically illuminated by streaks of lightning.

They were in the wilderness looking up at a pitch-black sky that was periodically illuminated by streaks of lightning.

A jury has been chosen in the Santa Fe, N.M., trial of Alec Baldwin, who faces up to 18 months in prison if convicted in the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
After a day of questioning, the attorneys selected 12 jurors and four alternates, comprised of 11 women and five men. The trial is set to begin Wednesday with opening statements.
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer began the process by asking a group of 70 people if they had seen or heard anything about the case. Only two people said they had not. Two others said they had read extensively about the case and could not be fair.
Prosecutor Kari Morrissey focused largely on whether the media coverage had influenced jurors’ opinions about the case. She also asked if the potential jurors own guns or work in the film industry. The prosecutors were assisted by Lela Hunt, a jury consultant.

What’s that meme about “the perfect movie doesn’t exist—” followed by a contradictory abrupt cut revealing, well, actually it does? Well, apply that to “Fly Me To The Moon,” the exuberant, tightly-crafted, endlessly charming, and near pitch-perfect space race film. Part comedy, part drama, part romance, and part race-against-the-clock and overcoming obstacles-to-pull-off-an-impossible feat thrill rush, it’s simply terrific, and maybe very unexpectedly so. Yes, this rare breed of movie, a mix of “Apollo 13,” “Mad Men”-era Madison Avenue advertising, and hell, even a little bit of ticking countdown “Oppenheimer” filtered through the champagne sparkle of the most intoxicating rom-com dramedy and you’ve got a shimmering delight that’s immediately engaging and front to back fully dialed in and compelling.

Artificial intelligence (AI) will quickly become a powerful “creative partner” for screenwriters and filmmakers, according to AI experts at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (Bifan) in South Korea.
A three-day conference dedicated to the emergence of AI in the film industry featured discussions that tackled challenges around copyright and privacy but also highlighted the opportunities presented by the fast-growing technology.
“It is a tool that will take over all the work you hate,” said Maciej Zèmojcin, CEO of Polish virtual production company PixelRace, of technology being developed to aid writers. “It will be like a co-pilot on steroids, automating elements that the screenwriter really hates.

Look, honest truth is Sony has struggled to get people interested in ‘Spider-Man’ spinoffs. Outside of the ‘Venom’ franchise, the live-action spinoffs have been varying degrees of bad. But perhaps things can turn around with the upcoming “Spider-Noir.” At least this has the pedigree of being a Lord & Miller production. And the cast is shaping up to be pretty great.

Peter Sarsgaard is serving up sabotage in a 20th century satire.
The actor leads the film “Coup!,” which debuted at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival. Sarsgaard stars as a sinister private cook who is hired by a journalist (Billy Magnussen) to live with him on an island amid the Spanish Flu epidemic.
The official synopsis reads: Isolated on a seaside estate during the 1918 Spanish Flu, an entitled journalist (Magnussen) and his socialite wife (Sarah Gadon) take in a mysterious grifter as a private cook (Sarsgaard). When the plague descends on the island, the wily cook rouses his fellow staff to rebel and take over the mansion. Their wealthy employer suspects the cook’s coup is part of a more sinister agenda, and mind games between master and servant escalate into boisterous class warfare.

24 years after Russell Crowe delivered entertainment in the Roman Colosseum in Ridley Scott's Best Picture-winner "Gladiator," the director is back with a sequel that will be hitting theaters in November. We finally got a look at the "Gladiator II" trailer today and to say that it looks wild would be an understatement. Scott has upped the action while assembling a stellar ensemble cast led by Paul Mescal ("All of Us Strangers"), Pedro Pascal ("The Mandalorian"), and Denzel Washington ("The Equalizer").
While Scott clearly isn't going for overall historical accuracy here, these films are based loosely on what happened in Ancient Rome during these storied gladiator battles. The trailer features some particularly wild moments, including a rhino being let loose in the arena. But the wildest moment comes early when the arena is flooded to simulate a navy battle, with huge war ships and dozens of men duking it out for the Romans to watch.

Emily Henry’s new bestseller “Funny Story” is her latest project to get the feature film treatment — and this time, the author herself is doing the adapting.
Produced by Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company, the movie version of “Funny Story” will be written by Henry and follow the plot in her rom-com novel of the same name, which was released April 23 by Penguin Random House.
Described as “a shimmering, joyful tale about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common,” Funny Story” follows Daphne, a children’s librarian coping with her broken engagement to Peter, who realized too late that he loved his childhood best friend, Petra. Stranded in her ex’s lakeside hometown, Daphne becomes roommates with Petra’s ex, Miles, and despite their differences, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan to get back at…or with their exes.

Sharon Stone believes that Kevin Spacey is still “canceled” due to his sexual orientation and not the allegations against him of assault.
Stone told The Hollywood Reporter that while Spacey “grabbed people by their genitals,” so goes the standard in Hollywood. According to Stone, however, it is solely due to the fact that the allegations against Spacey are queer that Spacey’s career hasn’t recovered.
“He’s reached out to everybody he’s offended and said he’s sorry,” Stone said. “Kevin grabbed people by their genitals. Many people. But nobody [has publicly said] he’s raped them or forced them into a sexual encounter. But there’s so much hatred for him because in his case it was man-on-man. That’s why he’s not allowed to come back. Because he offended men.”

How far will a mother go to seek perceived revenge for the death of her son? That’s the question at the heart of the Hitchcock-ian thriller, “Mothers’ Instinct.”
As seen in the trailer, “Mothers’ Instinct” follows the story of two women who are close neighbors and friends. Their bond is shattered after the son of one of the women dies after a tragic accident. The other mother then begins to believe that she is being targeted for revenge, even though she seemingly couldn’t have done anything to prevent the accident.

Studios love a trendy needle drop in their trailers. The 2010s were especially fraught with movie previews set to Imagine Dragons tunes, which might have been single-handedly responsible for the band being unduly maligned and declared "the new Nickelback" by musicophiles. Sorry, but I gotta defend my boys; one of them's from my hometown!
The problem wasn't the songs but how they were used -- that and, in the case of Imagine Dragons, how often they were utilized. When the trailer for "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" deployed "It's Time," the band's debut single was seamlessly meshed with clips from Stephen Chbosky's bittersweet coming-of-age drama. However, when "Believer" suddenly hit in the teaser for "Murder on the Orient Express," it just shattered the mood. There is nothing as haunting as a mother’s grief over losing a child.
Anne Hathaway stars as a woman whose son has a fatal fall from her balcony, with Jessica Chastain playing her best friend and neighbor. Olivier Masset-Depasse directs the domestic drama “Mothers’ Instinct,” which is a remake of his 2017 Belgium film “Duelles” based on the novel “Derrière la Haine” by Barbara Abel.
Director Masset-Depasse won a record-breaking nine Magritte Awards from the Belgian Academy including Best Film and Best Director for the original film “Duelles.” Writer Sarah Conradt (“50 States of Fright”) adapted the English language script.
The official synopsis reads: Set in the 1960s, “Mothers’ Instinct” centers on best friends and neighbors Alice (Chastain) and Celine (Hathaway), who live in a suburban paradise. Michael Moore said on a recent episode of his “Rumble” podcast that Joe Biden’s disastrous first debate against Donald Trump was “the cruelest form of elder abuse I’ve ever been forced to watch.” The Oscar-winning documentarian is joining the likes of Rob Reiner, Stephen King and other Hollywood Democrats in urging Biden to step down as the party’s 2024 nominee for president.
“If I have to be the only one to stand up for Joe Biden here, to protect him from the cruelest form of elder abuse I’ve ever been forced to watch, well then that’s what I’ll do,” Moore said. “He was in epic distress that Thursday night. Every cognitive default in his mind seemed to be shutting down. If this had been someone that you truly cared about, loved, embraced … what would you have done? Would you have seriously even let him go out on that stage?...

Released in May 1996, “Twister” assembled a creative team as formidable as the forces of nature that gave the film its name.
Co-written by “Jurassic Park” author Michael Crichton and his then-wife Anne-Marie Martin, produced by Kathleen Kennedy, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald and directed by Jan de Bont, the $495 million-grossing blockbuster was poised for success before a frame of film was shot. But even with visual effects firm Industrial Light & Magic providing what the MPA would describe as an “intense depiction of very bad weather,” de Bont recalls that actually telling a story involving tornadoes — you know, without everyone involved risking life and limb — proved to be an incredibly tough challenge.
“This was such complex new technology,” de Bont tells Variety. “We had 300 shots in the movie, and rendering would take 24 hours for every single shot.”

Quick, find the nearest field of wheat and run your hands through it as cinematically as possible! This morning, Paramount Pictures saw fit to drop the first official trailer for director Ridley Scott's epic sequel "Gladiator II" and, yes, we are very entertained. Set decades after the events of the 2001 original, the follow-up film is set to pick up roughly where Russell Crowe's Roman general-turned-freedom-fighter Maximus Decimus Meridius left off, who valiantly gave his life in the arena to end the reign of terror enacted by Joaquin Phoenix's unhinged Emperor Commodus. We'll now be looking through the perspective of up-and-coming star Paul Mescal as Lucius, who appears to be gearing up for a violent arc similar to the one the legendary Maximus navigated all those years ago. But trailers can be misleading, as we all know, and something tells us that there's much more than meets the eye here.
